Join UBBT ’12

28—31 March, Hale CO.

The Event

For the seventh year in a row, Tom Callos and the members and friends of the Ultimate Black Belt Test (UBBT) will be taking the martial arts out of the dojo and into the world by raising funds —and then provide manpower and support to several projects in Greensboro. In 2012, they'll be working on a Rosenwahl school, building a home for Ms. Georgia who will have a clean, warm, safe place to live because of the charity and compassion of the international martial arts community, and if enough people show up and enough funds, a loft in town.

This project is being organized by Tom Callos Team coach for The UBBT, The New Way Network, and Everything Self-Defense and Pam Dorr, director of Hale Empowerment and Revitalization Organization (HERO).

Our Cause

Georgia is an elderly woman who has lived her entire life in Hale County in the same home. Shortly after Hurricane Katrina, HERO attempted to find a subsidized program to assist in the repair of her house, but the damage was too extensive. She was living in a home with dirt floors and no running water. With the help of her neighbors, HERO and UBBT are working together to build Georgia an affordable 1-bedroom cottage to replace this dilapidated structure.

The new, energy-efficient home will help Georgia save money on utility bills, therefore enabling her to afford a mortgage. The home’s maintenance free design will ensure that up-keep remains manageable. All money raised will help build Georgia’s home and fund other HERO initiatives taking place in Hale County.

From Tom:

Self-defense is helping others. For $1 or more a month from the time you read this until we pick up our hammers in Greensboro, you can become a part of martial arts history. The members of the UBBT and all of our friends, students, and affiliated projects are showing the world the spirit and soul of the martial arts. We are about community, about respect, leadership, and taking what we practice so diligently on the mat and making it come alive in the world.

Connect with us, donate to the project, and if your schedule allows, consider joining us in Alabama for something that will forever shape the way you practice the martial arts. Contact me for more information. And please remember to Donate!.

“We go to change a woman's life, and give her a well-built home filled with love and respect.”

Hale County

Situated within the Black Belt Region of Alabama, Hale County is one of the poorest areas in North America. Hale is becoming home to several innovative initiatives including Project M's PieLab, BikeLab, Project Horseshoe Farm, and Teach for America.

It is through the loyal dedication of volunteer groups like UBBT and devoted members of the community, that we work together to bring positive growth and development to the area.

Our Sponsors

We are seeking corporate sponsorship, inquire with Tom Callos. Thanks to the Greensboro Baptist Church for their years of continued support of UBBT and HERO.
