Habitat for Humanity Hale County

Habitat for Humanity is an international, ecumenical Christian, non-governmental, non-profit organization devoted to building "simple, decent, and affordable" housing. Homes are built using volunteer labor and are sold at no profit. Since 2004, Habitat has built 21 homes throughout Hale and the surrounding counties.

Americorps NCCC & VISTA

AmeriCorps NCCC is a full-time, team-based residential program, focused on strengthening communities and developing leaders through direct, team-based national and community service. NCCC members have worked with HERO on a variety of projects in Hale Co. including the Bunkhouse, the Emory School, the Wheland House and the Martin-Stewart School.

AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. In 2009, HERO hosted five full time VISTAs and will welcome ten more for the 2010-11 year. VISTA members commit to serve full-time for a year, and work with HERO to build community-based initiatives and strengthen the capacity within existing programs.

Future Partners/Project M

Project M is John Bielenberg's design-for-good movement, intended to inspire young creatives that their work can have a positive and significant impact on the world. Since 2007, Project M has been working with HERO on a variety of projects, including PieLab, Greensboro’s newest eatery and community space.

Ultimate Black Belt Test

The Ultimate Black Belt Test is a revolutionary training program designed for the most serious and committed of martial artists. UBBT has partnered with HERO in recent years on projects like the Bunk House, the historic Emory School, the Martin Stewart School, HEROkids Day Care, HEROthrift, the Camp House, Georgia's Home and a home for LaToyna.
